What is the highest class of Merc, ie, elegance, avant garde etc. I have only ever had fords etc gl, glx ghia?
Im seriously tossing up buying one of these for a bit of luxury for once in my life. Which is the best one then after that and then after that and so on.
Is Avante Garde the top of the range then elegance sport, esprit. Its not self explanitary.
We went through this when we bought a Merc about 3 years ago. It appeared as though Avantgarde and Elegance were more or less the same spec level but the Avantgarde was more sporty (aluminium dash inserts and the like) and the Elegance was more traditional (wood dash and the like).
We went for the Elegance because we thought it felt a little more plush – but it’s just a matter of taste.
That said – as someone said above – just about everything comes as an extra, so have a look at the overall spec, whatever model you buy. It’s a total rip off. The M series SUV’s even have 4 wheel drive as an extra (or at least they did then) – can you believe that? They claim to compete with the likes of Range Rover and 4 wheel drive comes as an extra – mind boggling!
Then there’s servicing. Our second service cost £800 (just for the basic service) plus tyres. It was an insult to our intelligence – so we sold it and vowed never to buy a Merc again. The car was a C Class 270 Diesel SE Elegance Estate. Don’t buy one.
