How to hand wash clothes without a detergent?
I need to wear a dress tomorrow for graduation, and it needs to be hand washed. the only problem is that I don’t have any detergent for hand washing clothes. I only have Tide HE — which is a powder, for those of you who don’t use it. so what do I do? Is there a way to hand wash the clothes with that detergent? or am I just completely out of luck?
how would I wash my dress with shampoo? fill up the tub, get it all bubbly, and just let it soak?
Shampoo or dish soap both work well. You can use the Tide HE……take a very small amount, about 1 to 2 teaspoons and dissolve in warm water. Once it is dissolved, fill up whatever receptacle you are going to use to soak the dress in with cool water and add the dissolved detergent and stir around. Put the dress in and squeeze the water through the dress several times and then let soak for 2 to 3 minutes. Again squeeze the water through the dress and if it appears to be clean to your satisfaction, empty the soapy water out and replace with clear water and squeeze that through the dress. You will probably have to do this several times……replacing the soapy water with clear water. The dress is rinsed well once the clear water stays clear. Squeeze the dress out, don’t wring it out….that could damage the fabric. Once the dress is pretty well squeezed out, roll the dress in clean bath towels….this will help remove more water from the dress. Hang the dress to dry. This method works with the Tide HE, shampoo or dish soap.
