What would make my daughter's levels of blood glucose to be high?
My husband controls the glucose and on a whim I've had my 8 year old when he had his finger stuck and bled. Tested in a 488. I checked an hour later and it was a 142. Is it normal that children have such high levels? Is this something that is of immediate concern or something to make an appointment and get on schedule of the Dominican Republic for 2 weeks from now?
The first high reading may have been contaminated by the hand he had sugar in it (dirty hands), or artificially high because the blood had been exposed to the air long. Try again two hours after a meal, with hands that have been washed and dried. If the reading is over 140, it's time to visit your doctor.
